Home Away from Home
All meals are home-style, southern-style cooking, prepared fresh everyday. House specials include the world’s best chicken salad, broccoli salad, and the best (Boston) butt in the area. Meats and vegetables rotate daily, giving regular customers a variety of wholesome and nutritional meals. The iced tea, of course, is sweet. Other beverages include coffee, genuine Pepsi, and other soft drinks.
The menu also includes a variety of salads and sandwiches.
In addition to daily lunches,, Candy Sue’s Cafe offers catering services and special events. For a small fee, the entire cafe can be booked for special occasions: tour buses, banquests, parties, church gatherings…any reason, any season. For either catered or special events, a per person flat fee includes a choice of meats, vegetables, drink and dessert…and the comfort of a hostess from Sue herself.
Home-cooked meals Like Mom used to make, only better!
In 1998 two working moms had a dream of becoming self-employed and to establish a dinning experience in their community to satisfy the needs of other working moms and their families. Their vision was to offer an affordable meal in a friendly home town atmosphere.
Candy Borbet and Susan Walker collected a variety of recipes that have been passed down through generations of cooks and kid tested at their own tables. They put together a menu that they felt was satisfying and pleasing to anyone who sought after a meal with a taste of “home away from home”. Real “comfort food” was the goal!
The original Candy Sue’s was located in a cinder block building at 2303 Pine St. in Lumberton, NC. It had stood for many years as a local favorite sandwich shop. As the business grew they expanded to a larger location down the street to where it is now located at 2101 Pine Street in The Pine Street Centre.
Over the years Candy Sue’s has catered many meals all over Southeastern North and South Carolina. They have catered meals to as many as 2700 people and as few as 2. The philosophy of Candy Sue’s is if you need food we can provide it. No matter how many or how far. Over the past twelve years the people of Robeson County has consistently honored Candy Sue’s and chosen as the number one catering service in the county.
In 2005 Susan became the sole owner of Candy Sue’s and now continues to operate the business along with the help of her son Kevin. They are dedicated to continuing the tradition that has establish Candy Sue’s as a name that the locals call “home cooking” and they hope to embrace their community to a friendly environment that continues for more generations!
